Still on the fence about making the swap to a capsule closet? I get it. There's so much information out there and finding the right pieces can be hard. Trying to create a capsule wardrobe for myself is what led me to start Riley + Ro and design pieces that I needed in my closet. Let me tell you how these have been a game changer for me.
Finding the Problem
My capsule wardrobe journey started with a desire to simplify my life and one area that I knew could use some work was my very packed closet. As I began creating my intentional wardrobe, I knew I wanted to choose versatile pieces in neutral colors. A great pair of jeans is always a good staple- they go with just about anything and can easily be dressed up or down. The problem? Depending on the time of the month, I could be several different sizes and I struggled to find a pair that wouldn't wear out as my cute thighs rubbed together- y'all know what I mean :)
I created the The Jeans from Riley + Ro to include an adjustable waist for the perfect fit every time and made them with 98% cotton since one of the things that makes that fabric so special is it's strength. Throw in 2% elastane, because stretch (am I right?), and you've got that go-to pair for season after season.
The classic tee is also a must have - it's perfect for both casual and dressy occasions. Too often the t-shirts I bought would stretch out, discolor or come in trendy colors I knew wouldn't be "in" next season.

No surprise a jacket is a must have for any wardrobe, especially if you live in the midwest like me. Depending on the weather or the outfit, sometimes I wanted a full length look and sometimes just the torso. I also didn't love how restricted I felt through the shoulders in a lot of jackets.
The Trench from Riley + Ro goes from a full length coat to a cropped trench with the swipe of a zipper for ultimate versatility and has a high pleat in the lining, allowing for extra fabric to move freely. Then we made it with recycled wool bringing extra sustainability and my heart is in love with this piece!
Repeating the Solution
To finish things off, I wanted some elevated basics I could dress up and down. Solving the same problem I had with the jeans, The Trousers and The Skirt from Riley + Ro are made with the adjustable button system for sizing up or down to fit my now body.
I added an additional feature into The Trousers that allows the length to be adjusted depending on what shoes I wanted to wear that day. No more hemming to only fit one shoe!
Then I copied what we did in The Trench, put that high pleat into a gorg silk piece and the final product is The Blouse from Riley + Ro.
Adding the Finishing Touches
I invested in a nice pair of heels and some white sneakers to easily dress these pieces up or down.
My advice: invest in a quality shoes. Ones that will last and won't be worn down in a few months. Then you can find a good shoe repair shop and get then repaired, as needed, instead of buying more.
To finish off my capsule wardrobe, I focused on accessories. A belt, scarf, hat, jewelry, and a handbag were all great additions that can help me mix and match items to create different outfits. But don't be afraid to repeat that favorite outfit combo! #outfitrepeaters
